As we all know, diamond is the hardest substance in nature, and it also has excellent properties such as wear resistance, heat sensitivity, heat conduction, semiconductor and penetration. At present, the application of diamond to humans is mainly concentrated on the physical properties of high hardness.

Recently, researchers in Japan have made bipolar transistors for the first time by incorporating impurities into diamonds (diamond processed), making good use of the insulating properties of diamond and the highest thermal conductivity.

According to a recent publication by the Japan Industrial Technology Research Institute, the insulation of diamond semiconductor materials determines that it will not be damaged under high voltage. Good thermal conductivity allows high-efficiency to dissipate internal heat when a high current is passed.

But the high resistance of diamonds is a major obstacle in its application. Researchers such as the researcher at the Institute of Industrial Technology, Yamazaki Satoshi, have noticed that even if impurities are incorporated into the diamond, the diamond maintains a good crystal structure. On this basis, they developed a technique for mixing high-concentration impurities into diamonds and greatly reduced the resistance of the diamond by using the mechanism of jump conductance.

Using this low-resistance diamond, the researchers succeeded in developing bipolar transistors necessary for high-performance semiconductor components. Bipolar transistors have current amplification and are widely used in broadcast TV, telecommunications, computers, automation and home appliances as an efficient current control component.

Of course, diamonds have many excellent properties that are urgently needed for further development and application. With the continuous development of technology, diamonds will be closer to the lives of each of us.
