Nakazaki, a Japanese professor, has won the Nobel Prize for the development of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs). His research team is currently working on the next-generation optical device laser diode (LD) that goes beyond LEDs. LD can greatly improve energy efficiency and is used in many fields such as medical lasers and information communication.
Currently, medical applications have been partially implemented. However, due to the lack of efficiency and cost, the popularity is limited to a part. The University of Japan, where Professor Akasaki is located, attempts to achieve widespread LD development by applying GaN crystal technology related to the development of blue LEDs.
Professor Akasaki’s research center has a total area of 1,500 square meters and has invested 120 million yen (about 60.55 million yuan) to build a new crystallization unit. In addition to clean rooms, research labs and laboratories, it also has established cooperation with private companies. Study cooperation bases, publicity activities for research and development results.
The research and development of LD has attracted much attention, not only for energy conservation, but also for medical, industrial processing, water purification, etc., and its development will greatly improve the social status quo.
