Is the PWM and thyristor dimming good? Bibi knows

There are various types of dimming technologies in the field of LED lighting. Among them, the two commonly used dimming methods are thyristor dimming and PWM dimming. What is the difference between these two dimming methods? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? SCR dimming is a physical dimming, and PWM dimming is fundamentally different through pulse dimming. Controllable dimming can use a common dimmer, but the PWM must be dimmed with a dedicated dimmer. Therefore, the cost of PWM is relatively high, since the domestic thyristor can be used, but more than 100 lights need to use PWM.

One advantage of PWM is that the signals from the processor to the controlled system are digital and do not require digital to analog conversion. Keeping the signal in digital form minimizes the effects of noise. The noise can only be affected when the noise is strong enough to change logic 1 to logic 0 or logic 0 to logic 1. The enhancement of noise immunity is another advantage of PWM over analog control, and this is the main reason why PWM is used for communication at some point. Switching from analog to PWM can greatly extend the communication distance. At the receiving end, the modulated high frequency square wave can be filtered out and restored to an analog form via an appropriate RC or LC network. PWM is economical, space-saving, and anti-noise performance. It is an effective technology that many engineers use in many design applications, but the cost is relatively expensive.

As far as the current development of LED lighting is concerned, the most popular dimming technology is thyristor dimming. However, although this technology has received extensive attention, it is not as mature as PWM dimming. At present, PWM dimming technology is more stable and there is no stroboscopic problem. This point is that thyristor dimming cannot be surpassed at this stage. The final selection result still needs to be based on the designer's own needs as the main consideration.
